Wawrinka wins Dubai title; Thiem captures Acapulco crown; Cuevas reaches Sao Paulo final

Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships—Dubai, U.A.E.

No. 2 seed Stan Wawrinka recorded his ninth straight victory in an ATP World Tour final, defeating Marcos Baghdatis 6-4, 7-6(13) on Saturday at the Dubai Open in the U.A.E.

Hitting 18 winners throughout the one hour and 54 minute contest, Wawrinka broke serve on two occasions and improved to 6-0 against Baghdatis in lifetime meetings. Claiming his 13th career title, Wawrinka took home $511,750 for his efforts during the week. Baghdatis, who was aiming to win his fifth career title, improved to 7-4 on the season after his run to the finals.

No. 4 seed Dominic Thiem continued his stellar form on the ATP World Tour in recent weeks, capturing his second title in the month of February by defeating Bernard Tomic 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-3 on Saturday in Acapulco, Mexico.

Capturing the title in Buenos Aires earlier this month, Thiem overcame a 5-2 deficit in the first set before prevailing in three sets. Winning the fifth title of his career, Thiem took home 500 points for his victory and will hit a career high ranking of No. 14 in the world on Monday.
