Sinner, Djokovic Roll into Third Round of 2025 Wimbledon Championships
Thursday’s Results from Wimbledon
Thursday’s action at Wimbledon featured world No. 1 Jannik Sinner reaching the third round, dismissing Aleksandar Vukic from Australia 6-1, 6-1, 6-3.
Exposing his opponent’s backhand to great effect, Sinner hit 37 winners, 11 aces, won 68 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on six occasions.
Improving to 21-3 on the year, Sinner will next face Pedro Martinez for a place in the round of 16.
Sinner has reached the finals of the last three Majors, winning the US and Australian Opens.
Other results on the day No. 11 seed Alex de Minuar, No. 13 seed Tommy Paul and No. 15 seed Jakub Mensik reach the third round.
No. 19 seed Girgor Dimitrov, No. 22 seed Flavio Cobolli, No. 26 seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Jaume Munar, Jan-Lennard Struff, and Arthur Rinderknech also reached third round.
Former finalist Marin Cilic turned back the clock by ousting No. 4 seed Jack Draper 6-4, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
Seven-time former winner Novak Djokovic faced a tricky opponent in Brit Dan Evans earlier today. The legendary Serb needed four sets to oust Alexandre Muller in his opening round, but only three easy sets on Thursday, dismissing Evans 6-3, 6-2, 6-0.
Djokovic will next face countryman Miomir Kecmanovic for a place in round of 16. Kecmanovic defeated Jesper de Jong 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
On Friday, two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz returns to the court to take on Struff. The German defeated No. 25 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in four sets earlier on Thursday.
Andreeva Advances to Round of 32
Russian sensation Mirra Andreeva continued her fine season on Tour on Thursday at Wimbledon, defeating Lucia Bronzetti from Italy 6-1, 7-6(4).
The 18-year-old, who owns two titles on the year, continues to prove that it is only a matter of time before she wins a Major.
Andreeva will next face fellow 18-year-old Hailey Baptiste from the United States. Baptiste ended the run of Victoria Mboko from Canada in straight sets.
Other winners on the day included No. 10 seed Emma Navarro, Danielle Collins, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, and Zeynep Sonmez.
Sonmez became the first player from Turkey to ever reach the third round of Wimbledon. She defeated world No. 32 Xinyu Wang 7-5, 7-5.
No. 16 seed Daria Kasatkina, No. 18 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, and No. 23 seed Clara Tauson will be in action later today.
Five-time Major winner Iga Swiatek needed three sets to defeat Caty McNally from the U.S.A., 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.
On Friday, top seed Aryna Sabalenka returns to action to face a stern foe in former Wimbledon winner Marketa Vondrousova. The Czech star recently won the title in Berlin, Germany, defeating Sabalenka en-route to the title.
Vondrousova is currently ranked No. 73 in the world.
No. 4 seed Jasmine Paolini, No. 6 seed Madison Keys and No. 14 seed Elina Svitolina will play their third-round matches.
