Schwartzman Captures Rio Title; Khachanov Wins Marseille Title; Tiafoe Claims Maiden Title in Delray Beach

No. 6 seed Diego Schwartzman captured the biggest title of his career on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, dismissing former top 10 player Fernando Verdasco 6-2, 6-3 in the finals of the Rio Open. Using his consistent back-court game to great effect, Schwartzman broke serve on four occasions and needed only one hour and 23 minutes to notch his second career title. Reaching a career high ranking of No. 18, Schwartzman didn’t lose a set during the entire event.

Verdasco, who was in search of his eighth career title, remains two wins shy of reaching 500 career singles victories.

Open 13 Provence—Marseille, France

Karen Khachanov won his second career title in Marseille, France on Sunday, defeating No. 3 seed Lucas Pouille 7-5, 3-6, 7-5. In a match that lasted one hour and 47 minutes, Khachanov slammed 16 aces, overcame 13 aces and broke serve on three occasions. Never playing each other on Tour, Khachanov improved to 10-4 on the year.

Pouille, who was in search of his sixth career title and second this year, fell to 7-3 on the season.

Delray Beach Open—Delray Beach, FL, U.S.A.

Wild-card entrant Frances Tiafoe won his maiden title on Sunday in Delray Beach, Florida after he dismissed crafty German Peter Gojowczyk 6-1, 6-4. In a match that featured powerful forehands by the athletic American, Tiafoe also won 89 percent of his first serve points and broke the serve of his opponent on four occasions.

Defeating Juan Martin del Potro and Denis Shapovalov earlier in the week, Tiafoe will be ranked No. 61 in the world on Monday.

Gojowczyk also enjoyed a tremendous week on Tour which was highlighted by victories over John Isner, Reilly Opelka and Steve Johnson.
