Nadal Wins China Open Title; Goffin Captures Japan Open Crown

China Open—Beijing, China

Top seed Rafa Nadal cemented himself as the No. 1 ranked player in the world on Sunday, upending No. 8 seed Nick Kyrgios 6-2, 6-1 in the China Open title match. In a contest that saw Nadal dominate from start to finish, the top seed won 70 percent of his first serve points and broke his Australian opponent on four occasions. Never losing his own delivery, Nadal improved to 3-2 against Kyrgios in lifetime meetings and also won his sixth title of 2017. Winning 500 points for his efforts, Nadal will likely end the year as the No. 1 ranked player ahead of Roger Federer.

Kyrgios, who was in search of his fourth career title, fell to 0-2 in title matches this season.
