Jack Draper advances to the second round of the Madrid Open on Wednesday.

Mutua Madrid Open—Madrid, Spain

Wednesday’s action at the Madrid Open saw Young Brit Jack Draper reach the second round, defeating Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

In a match that lasted two hours and four minutes, Draper slammed six aces, won 81 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on two occasions.

The 22-year-old will next face No. 8 seed Hubert Hurkacz.

Elsewhere, former Cincinnati winner Borna Coric advanced the round of 64. The Croat will be joined by Botic Van De Zandschulp, Daniel Altmaier, Facundo Bagnis, Taro Daniel, Luciano Darderi, Fabian Marozsan and Jaume Munar.

Raducanu Ousted

On the women’s side, former US Open winner Emma Raducanu was ousted in her opening match, losing to Maria Lourdes Carle 6-2, 6-2. The 21-year-old is currently ranked No. 221 in the world.

Other results in the women’s draw saw Sara Errani defeating Caroline Wozniacki in three sets, and Naomi Osaka prevailing over Greet Minnen, 6-4, 6-1.

Thursday’s schedule in Madrid will be highlighted by the return of Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard returns on home soil to take on 16-year-old American Darwin Blanch.

Nadal, a five-time winner in Madrid, has only played two tournaments in 2024. The soon-to-be 38-year-old has stated that this season could in fact be his last on Tour.

Watch all the action live this week from Madrid on Tennis TV.

Get ready for the year’s second Major today, with great tickets to the French Open in Paris. It could be the last time fans have a chance to see Nadal play in Paris, France.
