Djokovic Wins 24th Career Major at US Open; Defeats Medvedev

Legendary Serb Novak Djokovic capped off a sensational Grand Slam season on Sunday in New York City, defeating Daniil Medvedev to capture his fourth US Open title.

Recording a 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-3 scoreline, Djokovic needed three hours and 16 to seal his victory.

Striking four aces and winning 81 percent of his first serve points, Djokovic broke the serve of his formidable opponent on three occasions.

Improving to 10-5 against Medvedev is lifetime meetings, Djokovic has now clearly established himself as the greatest men’s player ever. The 36-year-old will return to No. 1 in the world on Monday, a ranking he will take over from current top seed Carlos Alcaraz.

Medvedev, who was aiming to win his second career Grand Slam, was playing in his fifth career Major final. The 27-year-old has won five title in 2023. The 2021 US Open winner will stay at No. 3 in the world when the latest rankings are released.

Djokovic, Alcaraz and Medvedev all have a chance to finish 2023 as the No. 1 ranked player in the world.
