Raducanu Storms into Second Round of 2025 Miami Open; Bublik Advances

Wednesday’s Results from South Florida

Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu picked up a much-needed win at the Miami Open presented by Itau on Wednesday, defeating Sayaka Ishii from Japan 6-2, 6-1.

Needing one hour and five minutes to advance, Raducanu hit six aces, won 68 percent of her first serve points and broke her opponent on five occasions.

Improving her year-to-date record to 4-6, Raducanu will next face No. 8 seed Emma Navarro for a place in round three.

Raducanu is currently 22-years-old and has not won a title since claiming the US Open in 2021. She is currently ranked No. 60 in the world.

Other winners on the day included Veronika Kudermetova, Victoria Mboko, and Kimberly Birrell.

Canadian Mboko picked up her first career WTA main draw victory at just 18-years-old.

Matches that are still to come on Tuesday will include two-time Slam winner Victoria Azarenka, Katie Boulter, Belinda Bencic and McCartney Kessler in action.

Bublik Defeats Baez

Always known as an entertaining player, Alexander Bublik has some of the best hands and power on Tour. On Tuesday, he needed his full repertoire on display as he ousted Sebastian Baez from Argentina 6-3, 6-4.

In a match that lasted one hour and 10 minutes, Bublik slammed nine aces, won 88 percent of his first serve points and broke his opponent on three occasions.

The 27-year-old, who owns four career titles, will next face No. 12 seed Tommy Paul for a place in the third round.

Other winners on the day saw Rinky Hijikata and David Goffin reach round two.

Australian Nick Kyrgios and Frenchman Gael Monfils will be in action later today.

Kyrgios will be looking for his first win of the season after starting 0-3. The 29-year-old has previously made the semifinals in Miami on two occasions.
