Generali Open— Kitzbuhel, Austria

Berrettini Slides by Tabilo; Reaches Kitzbuhel

Italian star Matteo Berrettini continued his impressive comeback on Tour on Wednesday in Kitzbuhel, Austria, defeating No. 2 seed Alejandro Tabilo 7-6(4), 7-6(5).

In contest dominated by serving, Berrettini slammed 15 aces, won 79 percent of his first serve points and breaking serve on one occasion.

Winning his second title of the year last week in Gstaad, Switzerland, Berrettini currently stands at No. 48 in the world.

The 28-year-old will next face Nicolas Moreno de Alboran for a place in the semifinals. De Alboran defeated Lukas Neumayer in straight sets.

Other winners on the day included top seed Sebastian Baez, Yannick Hanfmann, Pedro Martinez, Thiago Seyboth Wild and Facundo Diaz Acosta all reaching the quarterfinals.

Atlanta Open—Atlanta, United States

Towering American Reilly Opelka reached the second round of the Atlanta Open after dispatching Aleksander Kovacevic 6-3, 7-6(5).

Slamming 19 aces during the one hour and 23 minute encounter, Opelka will next face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina for a quarterfinal birth.

Other results on Wednesday saw No. 8 seed Max Purcell and Juncheng Shang reach the second round.

No. 3 seed Frances Tiafoe will face Aslan Karatsev in the featured night match.

Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag—Umag, Croatia

No. 4 seed Francisco Cerundolo reached his fifth quarterfinal of the season on Wednesday in Umag, Croatia, dismissing Matej Dodig 6-3, 6-4.

Needing one hour and 29 minutes to advance, Cerundolo used his world-class forehand and movement around the court to upend his inexperienced opponent.

The 25-year-old will next face Lorenzo Sonego for a place in the semifinals. Sonego ousted Alexandre Muller from France 7-5, 6-1 earlier in the day in one hour and 34 minutes.
