Sabalenka Defeats Badosa at Miami Open; Rublev Ousted by MacHac

Miami Open—Miami, Florida

Friday’s action at the Miami Open featured No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka collecting an emotional victory, dispatching good friend Paula Badosa 6-4, 6-3.

In a match that lasted one hour and 23 minutes, Sabalenka struck three aces, won 77 percent of her first serve points and broke serve on three occasions.

Sabalenka will next face No. 32 seed Anhelina Kalinina for a place in the fourth round.

Other winners on the day included No. 3 seed Coco Gauff, No. 12 seed Jasmine Paolini, No. 14 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, No. 20 seed Emma Navarro and No. 21 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

On the men’s side, No. 5 seed Andrey Rublev was ousted in straight sets, losing to Tomas MacHac 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and six months. After a significant rain delay to start the day, MacHac started the match in great form and never looked back.

The Czech player will next face either Andy Murray or No. 29 seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

Saturday’s schedule of play in Miami will feature top seed Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard recently won the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California.
