Kwon Wins Maiden Title at Nur-Sultan; Hurkacz Captures Metz Crown

Astana Open—Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan

South Korean Soonwoo Kwon won his maiden ATP Tour title on Sunday in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, dismissing Australian James Duckworth 7-6(6), 6-3. Needing one hour and 36 minutes to capture his title, Kwon hit four aces, withstood 10 from Duckworth and won 86 percent of his first serve points.

Never facing his opponent on Tour prior to today’s encounter, Kwon will move up to No. 57 in the world on Monday.

Duckworth, who defeated John Millman and Ilya Ivashka earlier in the event, will be ranked No. 56 when the latest rankings are released.

Moselle Open—Metz, France

Top seed Hubert Hurkacz continued his strong season on Tour on Sunday in Metz, France, capturing his fourth career title and third of this season over second seed Pablo Carreno Busta 7-6(2), 6-3.

Using his heavy serve and potent groundstrokes to great effect, the tall Pole struck nine aces and broke serve on four occasions, during the one hour and 21 minute contest.

Dropping his previous encounter against Carreno Busta earlier this year in Cincinnati, Ohio, Hurkacz will be ranked No. 12 on Monday.

Carreno Busta, who was aiming to win his seventh career title, dismissed home-country favourite Gael Monfils in the semi-finals.
