Roland Garros—Paris, France

No. 4 seed Rafael Nadal completed a memorable fortnight in Paris, France on Sunday, defeating former winner Stan Wawrinka 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 to win his 10th Roland Garros title. Having not won a Grand Slam event for three years, Nadal stormed out to a 4-2 lead in set one and never looked back. Using his spin-oriented forehand to frustrate his Swiss opponent, Nadal broke serve twice in the first set, once in the second set, and three times in the third set. Winning a staggering 83 percent of his first serve points, Nadal also struck 27 winners to 12 unforced errors. Improving to 16-3 against Wawrinka in lifetime meetings, Nadal also took home his fourth title of 2017 and his 73rd overall career crown.

Moving up to No. 2 in the world as a result of his victory, Nadal will now head to the grass of London for his charge toward the Wimbledon Championships.

Wawrinka, who was in search of his fourth career Grand Slam victory, upended top seed Andy Murray in the semifinals. The Swiss star was previously 3-0 in Major finals. Wawrinka will remain at No. 3 in the world when Monday’s rankings are released.
